Natural & Organic Make-up

More and more people are moving towards using natural & organic make-up. This has been led by the trend towards mineral make-up so I thought it would be nice to share our main mineral make-up brand with you along with some lovely alternatives.

Lily Lolo has developed a cult following in that last few years and it's no wonder when you see the range and also the staying power!

They have everything from the concealers to the foundations, from the lipgloss to the brushes. The only thing they don't have is a mascara! There is a huge selection of colours to get the perfect match for your skin tone. I don't use a concealer (maybe I should!) , but I use blondie foundation which is one of the popular shades, applied with the Kabuki brush followed by a touch of Rosy Apple blusher, using the blusher brush.

For the eyes my favourite eyeshadow combination is the grey smokey shades so I use gunmetal and witchypoo (I just love that name!) applied with my sable eye brush and use my blending brush to create a really smokey finish. For the eye-liner you can use one of the eye pencils - which are great it's almost like applying a liquid with the ease of a pencil or use the eye liner brush and wet a small amount of the eyeshadow (witchypoo in my case) and apply - it's fantastic.

To set your makeup finish off with the finishing powders followed with your choice of lip gloss and remember if you really make your eyes stand out then choose a subtle colour for the lips. Alternatively play down the eyes and really glam up the lips! Just don't do both;-)

If you are not a fan of powder products then I still recommend trying Lily Lolo mineral cosmetics. It's not the same as the powders you were maybe used to a few years ago and feels really light on - in fact you don't feel it when it's on. however if you are a bit scared of trying it then you can mix it with a little of your favourite moisturiser and use it like a liquid foundation, this is how I started!

Alternatively both Suki and Madara do lovely tinted moisturisers in more than one shade and ideal for the summer months or those who prefer a lightweight moisturiser.

Do let us know what you think of the brands and your favourite eyeshadow colour combinations.

What a lovely Sunday I've had today, no frost on the car this morning (yes that does help my day to start well), kids playing nicely (well, as nice as can be expected at 3 & 5 yrs) and a wee family day out to a museum (yawn.... - food was good though). However I've managed to ruin the whole day by eating a WHOLE tube of sour cream pringles and now feel pretty ghastly!

The thing is I decided this morning that I was going to get back on track and drink 2 litres of water a day and eat much more healthy. With things being so busy lately with work I've just been on the go all the time. The signs are telling in the condition of my skin with it starting to dry out and no amount of moisturising helping which means it's completely dehydrated.... ....and now those Pringles are really taking effect....

So what are the first steps towards my healthy action plan?

1) Drink 2 litres of water a day including a hot water and lemon in the morning. This remedy has been said to help cure eczema as well as the common cold - I'll let you know

2) Increase my fruit intake and try eating fruit every morning for breakfast. Apparantly eating fruit in the morning helps give the body loads of energy, plus the water from the fruit helps cleanse and hydrate (and adds to that 2 litres I NEED to drink every day)

3) Start my exercise regime again. Now that the days are getting warmer and the sun is making some sort of appearance, albeit for a few minutes, I need to get back to training for a half marathon. That said my marathon running partner has another commitment in Sept when we planned to run this race so maybe I'll just train and run it next year, I'm not sure I'm motivated enough to run it on my own and my husband runs way way too fast for me

You know just thinking about this "healthy plan" has stopped me from feeling quite so ill after eating all those pringles, now where's that bottle of coke, no point starting in the evening;-)

Thank-you for all the lovely comments I've been receiving through twitter and facebook - but a great point has been made - "How do I follow you?"

Well as you will have noticed, i'm still very new to all this so I'm not sure if i've got the answer or not - but, I think, there should be a wee bit to the right of this near the bottom that says "followers" or something similar. I'm presuming when you look at it it has a click button to click on to follow but if this isn't the case please leave a wee message below and let me know!!

I would love to get a few more followers (well loads more, in fact TONS more, if i'm perfectly honest) as I need people to interact with and have some debates with - come on we can make this FUN! Firstly though let me know whether it's possible to follow or not!!

Last night I promised you I would let you know the great businesswomen that I met last night and many that are great for anyone getting married soon! Click on highlights to link to theit webpages.

First person I met was Lindsay Rao who owns SixpennyBlue, a gorgeous little wedding shop with an online presence selling handmade wedding invitations and stationery. The shop showcases/sells lots of items of interest to Brides to be such as tiara's and wedding jewellery, cup cakes and photographers. Both our husbands used to work together and we use the same web designer so we've been in touch "virtually" before but it was great to actually meet up, at last!

Now if you are getting married and need a wedding planner then MrsPandP (Alison Tinlin) from Plans and Presents is fantastic. She has been in business for less than 2 years and already has been nominated for prestigious awards - this lady has all the contacts to give you the wedding of your dreams. My view about event organisers is they can save you money. For the price of a Starbucks coffee a day you could have Alison's services for a year, planning your wedding. I'm sure with all her contacts the money she would save you would be more than her cost, and in this financial climate who can afford not to save money.

As mentioned SixpennyBlue showcase tiara's and wedding jewellery, one firm being Wedding and Baby. Louise Graham offers a bespoke design service as well as the opportunity to purchase one of their pre-designed options. Take a look at the testimonials her work is beautiful and you really need to look at the photos and see the pieces to appreciate just how beautiful they are. Louise can also run jewellery and craft making parties.

Irene McNamee runs the newly launched Renfrewshire Wedding Directory listing local suppliers to help you organise the wedding of your dreams! She also makes wedding stationery and cakes via her other business i-craft.

Talking of cakes, it was a delight to meet Nikki McCourt from Cup Couture. Having tasted some cupcakes at a recent Christmas fayre I understood why this new business was taking the country by storm. Having recently moved into Commercial kitchens expect to hear alot more about this young and exciting business that makes the most delightful range of cupcakes for weddings, events or special occasions. Wow I'm feeling really peckish now:-)

Which leads me nicely on to a lovely cottage industry business called Cochrane Cottage. Carol-Anne makes and sells Fabulous Jams, Chutneys, Drizzles & Balsamics from their commercial kitchen based at home. They already have over 20 stockists and are well on their way to doubling this. I tasted the sweet chilli drizzle which was gorgeous and will be placing my order soon for that and some Balsamic vinegars!

Since having children I've found I hardly wear any jewellery. Now that they are getting older I find I could wear a piece of jewellery without it being ripped from me or being used as a teether. Lesley Reid from Carla barla bead's make some of the most stylish and beautiful pieces of costume jewellery that I've seen and the prices are very affordable. Again you must checkout their facebook page to see photos and if you are local I would definately recommend a party.

Finally for all these working mums we need support and childcare. Two lovely ladies were on hand to help out Elaine Busby, a registered childminder from Ready, Steady, Go and Lyndsey McKendry from Call Team, a reliable and effective call answering service - great support for businesses working from home with not enough hours in the day.

So all in all a great mix and a great bunch of people. Check out their pages and I hope you find something you like and with all this wedding talk don't forget Katia Organics can offer some lovely organic products as favors for something just a little bit different, just get in touch on 0141 416 1601 or email info@katiaorganics for more details.

So I headed out this evening, without re-applying my Suki Tinted Moisturiser and my Lily Lolo Eyeshadow (because I'm a mum and I just don't have time), in the thick fog for a 40 mile round trip to meet a bunch of strangers - the things we do to avoid putting the kids to bed;-) Filled with slight anxiety as to what they would all be like I was delighted to find that they were ALL really nice. Imagine thinking that they wouldn't be, tut tut.

The connections made were great and for anyone with a future wedding then there were fantastic contacts. It's so late now that I'll list them all tomorrow or over the weekend.

Recently my 3 year old daughter had terrible itchy patches of eczema. I've never used steriod creams on her skin and was reluctant to do so, so my first step was to try out Inlight's Ecz-easy balm which I had previously tried on myself, with great success.

Well I couldn't have hoped for anything more. The terrible itching stopped within a couple of days and after about 1 week the patches had cleared. I stopped using the ointment and kept her well moisturised. That was before Christmas. She has a couple of bits that might be coming back so I quickly put the Inlight Ecz-easy on them before they got bad and she's right as rain again! It's a fantastic product I can't rate it high enough!
